tarot.folkup.life is a free, open-content encyclopedia about tarot — covering deck structure, major and minor arcana, symbolism, spreads, court cards, and personal practice. It is operated by FolkUp and supported by voluntary donations.

By using this website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the website.


2. Content License

Unless otherwise noted, all content on tarot.folkup.life is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

You are free to:

  • Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material, including commercially

Under the following conditions:

We do our best to provide accurate and up-to-date information, verified by the community. However, we do not guarantee that content is accurate, complete, or current. Encyclopedic content is compiled from various sources and may contain errors or outdated information.

5. Intellectual Property — Tarot Imagery

This encyclopedia discusses tarot decks, their history, and imagery for educational purposes.

  • The original Rider-Waite-Smith illustrations (1909, by Pamela Colman Smith) are in the public domain.
  • Modern tarot deck designs and illustrations may be protected by copyright held by their respective creators or publishers.
  • References to specific decks are made for educational purposes under fair use / fair dealing principles.
  • We do not reproduce copyrighted deck imagery without permission.

6. User Accounts (FolkUp Auth)

We offer optional user accounts through FolkUp Auth (auth.folkup.app), powered by Keycloak. Account creation is entirely voluntary and is not required to access the website’s content.

If you create an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate registration information
  • Keep your login credentials secure and not share them with third parties
  • Be responsible for all activity under your account
  • Notify us promptly at hello@folkup.app if you suspect unauthorized access

If you register via an OAuth provider (e.g., Google), the provider’s own terms and privacy policy also apply to their processing of your data.

FolkUp reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or are used for unlawful purposes.

7. Third-Party Links

This website may contain links to external websites. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of third-party sites. Following external links is at your own discretion.


8. Donations

FolkUp is supported by voluntary donations through Ko-fi. Donations are entirely optional and do not affect your access to content. Donations are processed by Ko-fi under their own terms. We do not receive your payment details.


9. Acceptable Use

You may use this website for any lawful purpose consistent with the CC BY-SA 4.0 license. You may not:

  • Use the website for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to interfere with or disrupt the website’s operation
  • Remove or alter copyright notices or attribution from content

Automated access (search engine crawlers, academic research bots) is permitted if it does not degrade service quality.


10. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law:

  • FolkUp shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of this website.
  • Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed EUR 100.

We do not exclude liability for: death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, intentional misconduct, or anything that cannot be excluded under EU or Portuguese law.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last Updated” date at the top will be revised. Continued use of the website after changes constitutes acceptance.

For material changes affecting user accounts or your rights, we will notify registered users by email where practicable.

13. Governing Law, Complaints and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal.

Complaints: If you have a complaint about our services or content, please contact us first at hello@folkup.app. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and aim to resolve it within 30 days.

If you are an EU consumer, you may use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform. Our email for ODR purposes: hello@folkup.app

Any unresolved disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of Lisbon, Portugal.

If you are a consumer resident in another EU/EEA member state, you retain the protections of your country’s mandatory consumer protection laws.
